A Betrayal

A Betrayal

A Poem by mhylands

As the hold crumbles and the gates are breached
Retreat to the safety of your isolating cells
Betraying the gods with the lies you preached
Devising insidious plots despite the tolling bells

Unable to accept the reality as it unfolds
Spewing lie after lie in hopes to deny
Trapped in ice, a frozen stasis so cold
Fitting farewell to the malice you cry

The audacity unfounded by your unwillingness to take hold
Of the hands extended to salvage the soul you had sold

In spite, your betrayal
Despite our portrayal
Antithesis, you are to me
In phthisis, to dichotomy

Turning your back to reveal the secrets held back
Denouncing this alliance as you fade to black

Tragic end for a man lost to madness
Sick and twisted, deprived of humanity
Deluded to believe you ever had this
Insane as to become absorbed in vanity

In time, you will wither away
Leaving nothing of value to stay
When no one is left to play
How will you ever find your way?
