Contrived Perception

Contrived Perception

A Poem by mhylands

Torn on how to alleviate this tension
Afflicting the integrity of my resolve
Tempted by the mere fantasy
Tantalizing my every fiber of being

Stuck and reminiscing distraction
Exalted fascination fixated internally
Heralding the rapture from dissonance
Lofty aspirations instigate condemnation

In veritas, I feel compelled
Held back by constraints self-imposed
Resisting the key to unbind
Still, I cannot accept manifest fanaticism

Often, expectations exceed reality
Gambles rarely turn a profit
So I force myself to believe
Tearing away from curiosity

Contriving a dulled outlook
Monochromatic perception
Nuances and differences fade
Leaving nothing to dwell
