Cigarettes

Cigarettes

A Poem by mhylands
"

A welcome poison

"

Even toxins passing through

This filtering membrane

Quell the anxiety

An ataraxic sensation

Suppressing the cravings

Yearning over-indulgence

Maintaining a system

Driven without fuel

A nourishing poison

A euphoric drug

Ensnaring the fibers of desire

Establishing an addictive empire

There lies no means of escape

Demanding eternal sacrifice

Existence beyond, meaningless

A neurologic haunting

Drift into tranquil waters

Where a deadly calm takes hold

For now, soothing remnants

Mystify and bring relief

There lies no means of escape

Hellish withdrawals

Existence beyond, meaningless

A deadly providence
