The Masochist

The Masochist

A Poem by mhylands
"

Me inside

"

A life enduring nothing but pure suffocation

Yet still I dared not learn to breathe

A masochistic mindset had been nurtured

But what shall come of it now

The water has evaporated from my lungs

And I have been free to breathe again

Although I do so carefully and suppress the joy within

A beautiful, most precious jewel has caught my eye

I languish as a cause of my inability to

Possess such a magnificent stone

Yet I know I must learn to breathe whole-heartedly

And realize the consequences of living in pain

One day, sooner or later, I will earn my chance

To hold this gem in my own hands

If only I knew the manner in which to approach this chance

So that it will not have gone to waste

Although the jewel is refined, I must acquire

The skills and patience to constantly polish it and

Bring out the inner beauty
