Nights by the Didessa

Nights by the Didessa

A Poem by mhylands
"

A combined set of pieces that were to be the lyrics for the song of the same title. It was a twelve minute epic, so many lyrics were needed.

"

Soul shattered, body tattered

Ashen thoughts creeping in

Battles fought and miserably lost

A broken sword lies in the field

Embark on a pilgrimage of spiritual cleansing

A ritual to wash the soul of impurities

Untainted lands lie to the West

A simple world void of the concerns of war

Leave behind the life spent on naive hopes

Remove the burden of a glorified hero

Forge a new outlook, a new beginning

Repent for the lives lost to a greater good

He was buried on the battlefield

With no hope for salvation

His fate had been sealed, and

The blackened sun burns high above the grave

Trials by fire

Perseverance

A new story unfolds

An enlightened rebirth

As he journeys west

[Solus]

I appeal to the reasonings of life

Always fighting for what I believe in

I will not forget my past

Never faltering, never submitting

But I am just a man

Not impervious to pain, not from this land

Still I cannot let down my guard recklessly

I’ll always be right here beside you

Carrying the burden, forever enduring that

I must be more than a man

Making diamonds out of mere sand

Living with reason, I shall bring about

Solace, the man who is never forgotten

Able to settle this conflict

Leading a new spirit

Into the great unknown

But you are destined to fail

Eternal suffering

Senseless slaughtering

The sun will not rise

Abysmal awakening

Give your soul up to me

I no longer feel

I no longer care

Where have all my reasons to live gone?

Soulless, I drink from the poisoned stream

And my body will no longer scream

Derived from a dead spirit

Creating the calloused unknown

Sleep…

Twisted mind, yearning to kill

And steal their souls to try and fill

The depths, the void, the soullessness left behind

[Cage of Solitude]

Lament as your mind runs astray

You parasite, and ignorant fool

The forsaken son, lost and alone

Left to the silent void

Leave them all behind

Stare into the face of desolation

Leave them all behind

And walk onto the plains of isolation

Clench the sheets in a cold sweat

Fall onto the icy floor

Drenched and shivering

It’s just the same old story

I fear a presence returning

To cut open my cage

Revealing the plagued insides

I can never ease this rage

I can never close this cage

[Judgment]

I bare my judgment in bloodied scars

Sentenced to an agonizing trail into exile

Left with these crutches, I’ll wring the neck

Of the executioner before I bid adieu

The legs carried me this far

And the end draws near

If I reach it with debts yet paid

I will boldly tear down the skies and

Reign over the burdens tormenting me

[By the Road]

This place that I see is part of my dreams

A vague and amorphous sight awakened in me

Dawn's beckoning presence makes clear my path

By midday I head out all alone

When my feet tire, I'll rest by the road

And when day breaks I will

Set out again

With dust on my boots

And wind on my skin

My heart grows warmer with every step I take

That place in my dreams, now, not far away

I know I'll get there before autumn dies

By midnight, I lay down all alone

With starry blanket, I'll rest by the road

And when day breaks I will

Set out again

With dust on my boots

And wind on my skin

Day after day when I wake

My old life is easier to shake

Past dwelling thoughts are reborn

And I am...

Not by the road at night when I sleep

A soft, silken bed now waits there for me

All that I left is now mine again

All who I knew and all who were kin

And when the day breaks I will

Set out again

With dust on my boots

And wind on my skin

[Beyond the Sea]

The calm breeze lifts the sails and begins our voyage

An endless blue, seeming to fall off the edge of the world

We journey to the distant horizon

Curious of what lies beyond

The seas are protective of its secrets

The waters become tumultuous and dark

But together we are strong enough

To keep from falling off this ship

Together we can make it to the beautiful sunrise and

Uncover the world’s most intimate hidden treasures…
