SMXII - IV

SMXII - IV

A Poem by mhylands
"

SMXII covers a series of writings I did during my drunken summer of 2012. Often, they were related to love, which is a difficult subject for me. When drunk, I wrote in my little black journal.

"

How can I make you smile

In the face of this hardship

How can I lift you up

From atop this sinking ship

Every day I curse this wretched temperance

Bound to a dying hope of perseverance

Have I not fulfilled my terms of penance

Or am I eternally lost to this trepidance

I shy away from terms of endearment

As I write down all my sentiments

None of this will make any sense

When you hear them under false pretense

Cross my soul, it takes its toll

My life is yours forever

Stain my hands with ignorance as

Shame falls down my face

I’ve fallen from grace

Distanced in space

Never to return to this place

I feel a creeping trepidation

Through this intense sedation

Am I stuck in denial

In the face of this hardship

Am I all washed up

From atop this sinking ship

I crave this fortune untold

And face this new world boldly
