An Army Wife's Nightmare

An Army Wife's Nightmare

A Poem by Hoskinsish

An Army Wife’s Nightmare

I wish I knew that you were okay,

That nothing is like what they say.

That you hadn’t put on your uniform

And walked out into the storm.

That the bomb never went off

And you’re safe inside your loft.

Instead I’m here, lying on the cold floor,

Hoping that you’ll come through the door.

That at any moment I’ll see your smile,

And know that all of my tears weren’t worthwhile.

That they were just playing a cruel joke,

That you weren’t inside all of that terrible smoke.

I wish you were on your way back here,

Instead of lying wounded, your life about to disappear.

But I have a feeling your commanders weren’t lying,

That you truly are dying.

And I feel like there’s nothing I can do

Because I’m a million miles away from you.

Well written piece, like how captured the anxiety in this one, I can only imagine what it would be like waiting for news like that.

Superb. The feeling is so intense in this poetry coupled with a sense of insecurity and helplessness that the wife has been bearing every moment of her. A lively piece of work with strong message. So nice to read it

Guess it must have been worse in the WWII when so many wives were wrongly given this news. You capture the heart ache of not knowing and the pain of the waiting for confirmation. Keep em' coming
