Wish I'm Waiting On

Wish I'm Waiting On

A Poem by Undying Glory
"

This is a remake of one of my earlier pieces, "This Ain't Over", about being voted off a talent show like "The X Factor", "American Idol" and so on...this is a farewell song.

"

Wish I’m Waiting On

Curtain call, the lights are fading

The final chapter of the dream I’m making

Standing here at the crossroads of the night

Sometimes I fall, on a wish I’m waiting on

Never stood so tall before this came and gone

Wondering if I’m ever gonna make this right

Always running, towards the deep blue sky

Always humming, the songs that made me cry

Like the memories of smiles and tears

While I’m waiting for the day I’ll kill all my fears

Taking a step to where no one’s gone before

Because it’s never over, until you walk away

Flying through storms and sun, I’ll reach my dreams someday

But I’ll always know and I’ll never forget

How you held my hand, as we walked towards sunsets

And it’s always okay, no matter what might come

Standing on the cliffs, screaming at the top of my lungs

That somehow I’ll find the strength to carry on

When it’s all dead and gone

Another chance has slipped me by

A final dance, into the night sky

Tomorrow I’ll wake up and wonder

If this happened at all

Solitary paths diverging

Yet somehow the sky’s always merging

The common dreams beyond the thunder

Awaiting us and all

Never standing up for myself, and my hopes

Never asking what I was meant, to go for

Knowing that there might be something better

Through the sunshine and rainy weather

And I know this is true, I’ve never felt more sure

Because it’s never over, until you walk away

Flying through storms and sun, I’ll reach my dreams someday

But I’ll always know and I’ll never forget

How you held my hand, as we walked towards sunsets

And it’s always okay, no matter what might come

Standing on the cliffs, screaming at the top of my lungs

That somehow I’ll find the strength to carry on

When it’s all dead and gone

And would we ever know, when we’re finally there

So many more got left behind?

Would we let it show, when we’re at the end

That our dreams don’t fade with time?

I’m just a kid who wanted to see

How far he could go in this life

Looking far beyond the valleys and trees

The wish I’m waiting on, I know it’s mine

Because it’s never over, until you walk away

Flying through storms and sun, I’ll reach my dreams someday

But I’ll always know and I’ll never forget

How you held my hand, as we walked towards sunsets

And it’s always okay, no matter what might come

Standing on the cliffs, screaming at the top of my lungs

That somehow I’ll find the strength to carry on

When it’s all dead and gone

CODA

Curtain call, the lights are fading

Another chapter of my life I’m making

I know I’ll never give up this fight...

Never give up the fight

Another good one, brother. Interestingly, the repeated verse/chorus really struck me the last time. I had to go back and read that they all had, "But I’ll always know and I’ll never forget/How you held my hand, as we walked towards sunsets" because for some reason it was like I hadn't read that before and it struck me as really beautiful that last time... I'm not sure why it took that long... weird.

A style point - and feel free to ignore this, it could just be me - I find a repeated line very powerful at the end and tend not to put anything after them. "When it's all dead and gone" has great finality and resonance it's a shame to put anything after it. Although, reading the words I can see why you have... Something to think about.

Strong emotion and powerful desires in this poem. When pain is accepted. We must move on. Tasting the pain is just one more lesson for us. I did like the strong ending. We must go forward and don't look back. No weakness in this outstanding poetry.

I know these feelings. I nodded at 'wondering if I'm ever going to make this right' because I often think like that when editing some story that I think no one will ever read. though I am no longer a kid, I am still a kid. So you had me nodding again at 'I'm just a kid who wanted to see, how far he could go in this life.' The last two lines are the ones to really hold onto though.

This has such conviction, a remarkable piece of work love, you always did hold poignancy in your writing and this leads to such desolute shores but with hope! Wonderful xoxo

its been long i last read your writing and that i sure is something i've missed. How you vividly pass your messages and how subtly you pull one into your world of fantasty with just the right depth and imagery. You rock, thanks for sharing.
