The Hours Fall

Through night and day
Can't you feel the seconds ticking by
The hours falling away
As we take step by step
To the very end of the road

We're never here to stay
So let's all hold on as we try
Our best to find our way
With all of our moments left
And everything that we've known

So let's seize every minute we have, each day of our lives
Make each one more special than the one before
Every cry and each laugh, under dark and deep blue skies
Every treasured memory forevermore

Look to the future so bright, to our destinies
Dwell not on our failures haunting the past
The light at the end is in sight, the dreams we can achieve
Across the open seas we sail, reaching higher than the stars

Watch the hours fall into the sky
Though we're just waiting on our dreams
Like we're gonna have a second chance
If it all just goes and slips away
When will we know that now's the time to fly
And when will we know what it truly means
To break free and learn from the past
And to stand tall and not be afraid
So can we rise to the stars before our inevitable fate
Treasure each moment while it's not too late

In the sun and the rain
Let not our words be lost
Deep in the sadness and disdain
Of everything we've lost
And everything we've known

We've got so much to gain
No matter what the cost
And though things won't stay the same
Deep even in the icy frost
And everything unknown

So let us not fear the end. when we're finally there
Instead let's cherish each beautiful day
Treasure our family and friends, until we're no longer there
Until all the world has fallen far away

And know that death is not the end of our legacies
'Cause they live on far beyond our lives
So take a breath, take my hand, towards our destinies
For this is our reason to go the extra miles

Watch the hours fall into the sky
Though we're just waiting on our dreams
Like we're gonna have a second chance
If it all just goes and slips away
When will we know that now's the time to fly
And when will we know what it truly means
To break free and learn from the past
And to stand tall and not be afraid
So can we rise to the stars before our inevitable fate
Treasure each moment while it's not too late

And think about it all, of every breath we take
How many more just breathed their last
Don't forget about it all, embrace what's left to take
We'll never be destroyed by the past

Ignore whatever they say. that might bring you down
Don't ever forget what you're living for
Emerging out from the fray, we stand tall and proud
We will only be gone when no one loves us anymore

Watch the hours fall into the sky
Though we're just waiting on our dreams
Like we're gonna have a second chance
If it all just goes and slips away
When will we know that now's the time to fly
And when will we know what it truly means
To break free and learn from the past
And to stand tall and not be afraid
So can we rise to the stars before our inevitable fate
Treasure each moment while it's not too late

Thank you so much Marie Harrison and Dinesh for inspiring this one! I sure owe you guys one!
Our society has been feeding us the "fear death" mentality, be it directly or indirectly. personally this is not the way i want to live. the important think is not to fear death, but to be mindful of death.
think about it. surely we would treat each other far better than what we do now if we realized that we could never see each other again!
surely we would seize each moment if we realized that this could be our last!
why do we fear death? do we think that we will lose everything? we will truly be gone from this world when no one loves us anymore, and all our contributions are ignored and trampled upon. why else do you think people say "I'll be with you in spirit" when they can't be there personally?
somehow i find that only the terminally ill and dying realize this. why don't we realize this now and live our lives much better?

This was my favorite part:

"Ignore whatever they say. that might bring you down
Don't ever forget what you're living for
Emerging out from the fray, we stand tall and proud
We will only be gone when no one loves us anymore"

A very well written and inspiring poem. Well done.

Life and death is never easily put into words! This is a stunning poem hon, each moment treasured is a moment well spent! We all too often forget the beauty of life as the low's get the better of us!
Death is something we all fear, I think, because we just don't know what is around the reaper's corner!
As humans, our consciousness is dumbed down to a degree on this plain! I have always felt a feeling I can only describe as home sickness, its taken me a long time to realise that is due to this plain being merely a test, the other side is true home as such! Don't get me wrong, I am petrified of death! But there has to be more to life than life! lol
Great, thought provoking work!

I just love this song. It's so beautiful. We do need to cherish each hour. I'm going to print this, let it be my reminder each day. Thank you for sharing. It really moved me and touched my heart.

Beautiful inspiration you got .. this is a wise poem. Some of us do this .. take your advice ...some do not. I find myself at times 'wallowing' in the past and as your poem reads, this is not a way to live. I have lost two young loved ones in a blink of an eye and i know how precious life is and how we should seize each moment and make it all it can be.

Very well written.. beautiful flow and so much wisdom!
You have written one for the books as they say.. very much enjoyed this.

I love this poem, the imagery was very poignant. Each line casts spell that opens one's eyes to the fact that every tick of time counts. The poem flowed really well, i didn't have to twist my tongue when reading this. Lol! But seriously you've got to keep writing more of this, its inspiring. Thank you!

I must really appreciate, if not for anything, the length of the poem. The longest poem I ever wrote was a ballad and was long ago. I don't remember myself writing a long poem after that. Now, writing one needs a lot of patience, a lot of stocked-up imagery in the mind and a lot of talent. Seems you have all of these.

Now, coming to the poem, this is as lyrical as ever. I always wished you were a formalist. But then again, I always wanted every good poet to be :P (I even asked Tate and Robin to write in meter once); And later found out that each one has their own style in which they can prosper in. :) My favorite lines are

"In the sun and the rain
Let not our words be lost
Deep in the sadness and disdain
Of everything we've lost
And everything we've known"

And I'm glad I could inspire you :) I take that it was "Beauty in death" ;)

Keep writing.
