Erase (Just A Kid)

Erase (Just A Kid)

Another song/poem about being the odd one out...always.

Erase (Just A Kid)

Once again I'm alone
In a world of my own
Where I can do whatever I want to

Can't stand another day
Someone make their words go away
'Cause I know I'm not like you

So how can I try to fly
When you keep breaking my wings
So how can I reach for the sky
When you're just not listening
Just because I'm not
Like them, but so what?
So I'm breaking out right now

But I know
I'm gonna make it someday
I'm gonna make it my way
'Cause I'm just a kid out to prove to them
That I can make it too
So go on, just laugh at me
Someday you will be sorry
'Cause I'm just a kid out to prove to myself
But not to people like you
As I erase your words from my memory
Don't ever think of turning back to me

Once again alone I fall
To my knees, hit the ground
Take the beating quietly
And pray that it'll be over soon
So now I shout, hear my call
So the world will hear the sound
Like a lone wolf howling endlessly
Howling at the distant moon

So how can I try to fly
When you pretend I've got nothing to show
So how can I reach for the sky
When you call me stupid, but what do you know?
Just because I'm not
Like them, but so what?
So I'm breaking out right now

But I know
I'm gonna make it someday
I'm gonna make it my way
'Cause I'm just a kid out to prove to them
That I can make it too
So go on, just laugh at me
Someday you will be sorry
'Cause I'm just a kid out to prove to myself
But not to people like you
As I erase your words from my memory
Don't ever think of turning back to me

Now your words don't hurt anymore
No I don't feel a thing
And I will fly on forevermore
So this song I will sing'
And you'll never break my spirit
Though you may break my bones
'Cause I'm more than just another kid
I'm gonna find my own way home

But I know
I'm gonna make it someday
I'm gonna make it my way
'Cause I'm just a kid out to prove to them
That I can make it too
So go on, just laugh at me
Someday you will be sorry
'Cause I'm just a kid out to prove to myself
But not to people like you
As I erase your words from my memory
Don't ever think of turning back to me

Brilliant piece, I enjoyed every word.

I really like this. I feel this way a lot of the time because I get this sort of thing from my family, my workplace, and sometimes but rarely my friends. It's a really hard thing to endure everyone always putting you down or trying to break your spirit because you don't do the things others think you should or because you're not like someone else. There's a quote I love and it's this...

"Misfortunes one can endure -- they come from outside, they are accidents. But to suffer for one's own faults -- Ah! there is the sting of life." -- Oscar Wilde

Love this poem.

I love the how it circles back in its message. I can relate to the pain expressed and I recall that when I use to write songs.. they structured and framed in the same thought process as you. I enjoyed reading it very much. Keep up the good writing work.. I implore you to search out the inner feelings that you may not be using yet. Imagination can break you into a world of poetry you never knew. I know exploring has done that very thing for me...

Kind of like a melody to me... more of a whimsical quality than a poetic.

Well, you do make a point - and I wish you luck on your flight. I think the repetition
(of the major lament) is a bit overdone, but that may well be what you were aiming for. Otherwise, not a bad effort.
