Misty Rays of Light

Misty Rays of Light

A Poem by Michael
"

Walking the woods one morning

"

Softly light does come to me
through mist-veiled forest boughs
Lighted rays of milky white
just where some void allows

Half-light lives where rays do not
more gray than color true
Yet, rays too are not sincere
they lack truth's special hue

Cathedral walls reaching sky
unchanged from walks before
whites and grays are all I see
upon this forest's floor

Greens and browns and autumn reds
are there but not to see
Light and dark have caged the hues
that long to be set free

A stunning sight, yes it is
but lacks a deeper feel
In the hues that live between
are feelings much more real

I look at dark and at light
as lack of compromise
Extremes that bind to a thought
and leads to things unwise

I just adore forests and I enjoyed your wonderfully descriptive
experience. Forests are a great place to meditate on the
wonderful feel of nature surrounded by trees, hues and shades.

I loved this stanza...

"Greens and browns and autumn reds
are there but not to see
Light and dark have caged the hues
that long to be set free "

Beautiful poetry!

How intriquing to discuss the feeling of the tones of gray and the longing you have for the plethora of colors missing in this beautiful, serence, yet not quite majestic landscape. Beautifully penned. A wonderful, natural write. Quite enjoyable. Thank you.

Michael, this is a most fabulous write. I loved it! From start to finish, each rhyming line, it was very well put together. I agree with AB about it being perfect for the season.
I really love the enchanted quality and feel of the setting in the forest. I was just hiking yesterday in the woods and told my friend how inspiring the woods can be for poetry and such. You've completely agreed with me on that, even though this piece represents the colors we miss. Nicely done. :)

I am a bit surprised that this poem has not been reviewed before, because it fits perfectly in the season we are living in and everything tends to fade to grey during foggy days. Though I currently still live in the city, I live near a little stream, in fact the neighbouring streets are in the valley of the stream. Every time the weatherforecast predicts fog or mist, our part of the neighbourhood is even mystier... which givens the so familiar habitat a very extraordinary feel.
When I read your work, I recognised this mystifying athmosphere which at times can make familiar things we take for granted either unrecognisable or even surreal.
Thank you for capturing this. I could feel the mist creeping into the neighbourhood as I was reading!
