If You'll Be Our Coxswain

If You'll Be Our Coxswain

A Poem by Michael
"

Just some thoughts about new President and how to support him.

"

All the world is waiting
yes, waiting just to see,
how you'll guide our future
on the things that will be.

Sitting like some coal-lumps
that form a darkly pile,
we wait for your wisdom,
we're anxious all the while.

Forgive us our wonder
while we learn who you are.
Words are what won the day
and hitched us to your star.

Now we wait for action,
added to all you've said.
Lo, that is the problem -
waiting for things ahead.

Never did you promise
to do this all alone.
Nor did I hear from you,
"I'll change it on my own."

No one of us can lift,
this country as a whole.
We must pull together,
to steer the nation's soul.

Hold yourself to greatness
on all you plan and do.
Demand that we help you,
we'll find the path that's true.

Now's time to set the course,
with both oars left and right.
Try to keep the balance
tis, then the goal's in sight.

If you'll be our coxswain
we'll pull upon the oar.
What's needed is your guidance
nothing less, nothing more.

Just in case you don't know, a coxswain is the name for the person that guides a boat by either steering or directing.

First, I loved the title, and the real theme of the poem.
I think this is one of the best politically-based pieces I've ever read. It didn't say 'Obama's going to solve all our problems'. It didn't say the opposite. It's just a hopeful, well-steered work.

Forgive us our wonder
while we learn who you are.
Words are what won the day
and hitched us to your star.

This was a great part...words are what won the day for Obama...we're going to find out what he's made of in the next few years. I really liked that, even though I didn't support Obama
The comparison with the president and the coxswain of a boat is really smart work! I will come back to read this poem again.
