Porch Swing

Porch Swing

A Poem by Michael

Slowly we move as in a glide,
and in my arms you rest,
as a toe's push propels the ride,
your cheek upon my chest.
In slow motion we drift the tide,
to pause upon the crest,
and then gently back soon we'll slide,
retorting chain's protest.

So back and forth we pass the time,
enchanted by this thing.
As distant bells then strike and chime,
from the church where they ring,
to etch the soul - a point sublime,
marked by the last bell's ting.
Then we rise above life's abiyme,
from moments on a swing.

Such simple joys often ignored,
while success' line we queue.
I gain from this a soul restored,
my moments spent with you.
A swing may be just chain and board,
but love it can imbue.
So join me soon and we'll record,
more feelings that ring true.

You know this fed my soul too. Lovely moment captured, time out doing nothing in particular but made significant by sharing it with someone. Sometimes I find rhyme is restricting and can make the words predictable but I didn't find that here, at all, the poem didn't seem contrived just very lovely :)

This is just such a lovely wonderful write, it reminds me my childhood home where my sister and I used to swing on the front porch. Such wonderful memories the poem bring forth, thank you, it's delightful.

This was a beautiful reminder to me of taking the time to enjoy the simpler things. I remember the days with my children on the swings and their laughter and simple acceptance of love and wonder. Thank you for that and for your writing.

What a delightful soul-filling poem! One just can't resist the sight of a swing, from tot to elderly.. it is magical isn't it? the graceful swing so aptly described here in your poem made me feel the gush all over again! Thank you!

I like this, Michael, and like the ideas behind it tremendously. The poem is warm, gentle and hopeful. You state a truth we all find, usually later than sooner: joy isn't found in the wallet, but in the love around you.
