Four Noble Truths

Four Noble Truths

A Poem by Michael
"

Buddhism has four core beliefs; here I have given my thoughts on how I see each one.

"

There is suffering…
of this, no one can deny,
for lack of life’s simple needs,
   man’s children often die.

There is cause for suffering…
   though rarely the intent,
but more by lack of feeling,
   such innocence is spent.

There is an end of suffering…
Sooner or later, the pain will go away,
   by deeds done or not,
we pick the role we play.

There is a path to the end of suffering…
but what, oh what will it be?
Will you pick the trail that gives life,
or grant death slowly, by degree?

Perhaps you already know this: Buddhists celebrate the birthday of Buddha today. Gautama Buddha was born Prince Siddhartha in India, in the sixth century B.C.E., and his parents were told by mystics that he would grow up to be either a great political leader or a supremely enlightened teacher.

A lovely poem.

Great questions. I recall the Buddha said, 'Life is Suffering.' Although, at the same time he later became fat literally and figuratively on life itself. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Many questions here remain unanswered - I suppose it is our choice to choose the path that best suits us. Nice write.

This is a poignant write of a stark truth. I love the progression through the detailed journey of suffering - very creative. The picture you painted of this journey evokes much thought to ponder.

~very well done~
