Meghan

A Poem by messytessa

i remember when we first started to hang out
you seemed much to cool for me
like you had it all
you knew a million people
you were loud, out going
and I was quiet and small
i couldn't believe that out of every one
you choose me.
i rememeber the day when we were walking up to the third floor
you needed to get math help
we were going up the stairs and you showed me a scar
you said it was from rugby
but i knew better than that.
you told me everything about you
like you were talking to yourself
you weren't afraid of what i would think
and if i'd had the courage to tell you anything
i'd say
meghan
i may not be able to show you my scars
because i cannot unzip my skin
and you cannot touch the crevices of my brain
with your fingertips
but i want to tell you to keep going
because we all have scars
i swear we all do
some are small little scratches made by tree branches
reaching to the sky
and some are long gushes
like the ones you think i don't know
you do to yourself on the bathroom floor
they are bloody and messy
but the size of your sadness
does not determine the size of your love
the size of your talent
the size of your laughter
the size of where you will go and who you will be
they only show you the places of yourself you have fought to live
and you have every right to live.
