candy’s catA Chapter by Mes“you’re also not a cat.”
Calista was awoken at the most unreasonable hour possible by the sound of her cellphone emitting its classical ringtone. She sighed and flipped over in her bed, grabbing the cellphone and hoisting it toward her ear. “Hello?”
“There is a demon cat in my house, and I need lots of help!” Calista blinked and gently pulled the phone from her ear, listening to the sound of Candy frantically screeching before responding, “Repeat that?” “What, a girl can’t get help with a demonic cat?” Candy whined into the phone. “Can cats get possessed?” “Cats just go crazy at night. You know that,” explained Calista softly, throwing her blanket off her body as if realizing that Candy desired her presence at the scene. “Look, I’ll come over. Don’t panic.” “I asked Saber to also come over,” Candy, slightly regretfully, said. “The cat scratched me, so, y’know.” Calista tugged a jacket over her exposed shoulders, holding the phone in between her cheek and shoulder. “And she didn’t kill you for waking her up?” “She was awake.” “Typical.” Calista locked the door behind her as she exited the house, refusing to hang up the phone, mainly due to Candy’s request to stay on the line. She also did not wish to leave Candy in a state of anxiety alone, whether the situation was dire or simple. Upon reaching the home, she was greeted by a familiar face pushing open the door without warning, and she finally ended the call after informing Candy of her arrival. “You’re not gonna knock?” inquired Calista jokingly, noticing the tiny first-aid kit in Saber’s arms. “You’re prepared.” Saber glared, but no menace was revealed in the action. “She knows I’m here. Also, cats can do some damage, idiot.” Calista shrugged and nodded toward the opened door but paused when a shadowy blur flashed in the doorway, dashing into the bushes that littered the empty street. Candy appeared in the doorway moments after the cat had hidden, and Saber stepped away from the door upon noticing the spray bottle in her hand. “I told you I’d spray you!” yelled Candy, tossing the spray bottle aside. She whirled to face Saber and halfheartedly grinned, allowing her into the house, being followed immediately by Calista. Saber took Candy’s arm into her hands after handing the first-aid kit to Calista and examined the scratches, audibly huffing. “These aren’t serious, you know. Did you wash the scratches with soap?” Candy widened her eyes and gazed at Saber. “Will I die if I didn’t?” “No,” Saber stated. “What even happened?” “I opened my window, and this cat got inside. I told you it’s a demon!” Candy explained, rushing toward the kitchen sink. “It attacked me first. The spray bottle was a drastic measure.” Saber raised an eyebrow. “Because spray bottles are so threatening.” “I wouldn’t wanna be sprayed with one!” complained Candy, washing off the soap that she had rubbed onto the scratches. “You’re also not a cat,” Calista commented. © 2019 Mes |
