nethlyvia’s sunset

"

“are you glad we waited?”

"
Nethlyvia placed her head against the palm of her hand and hummed, tapping her foot on the pavement. The noise caught Venrie’s attention, who, beforehand, was staring anxiously into the sky.

“Do you know what we’re waiting for?” questioned Venrie.

“No,” Nethlyvia giggled, glancing at Venrie out of the corner of her eye. “Nothing, maybe.”

“O-Oh.” Venrie frowned, and her eyes glided reward the spot beside Nethlyvia. “Can I sit?”

Nethlyvia raised an eyebrow and motioned a hand toward the spot. “Well, yeah. I don’t know why you haven’t.”

Venrie plopped down onto the pavement next to Nethlyvia and clasped her hands together silently. The demon cocked her head to the side upon noticing Venrie’s gesture.

“What?” Venrie inquired, widening her eyes after realizing that Nethlyvia was staring confusedly.

“I think you’re too nice,” Nethlyvia commented, her head bonking against the pavement as she leaned backward. “It’s admirable.”

Venrie unfolded her hands and scratched the back of her neck. “The royal family I worked for was mean, so I think it’s my job to be nicer than them.”

“That makes sense, I think,” responded Nethlyvia, abruptly nodding toward the sky that was now littered with an array of warm colors. “That’s what we were waiting for.”

Venrie grinned at the assortment, gaping when a firework soared through the sky. “That’s… That is really nice.”

“Are you glad we waited?” Nethlyvia inquired, offering her companion a questioning glance.

“I think so.” Venrie pursed her lips. “When you brought me here, you knew the sunset wouldn’t happen for awhile, though.”

Nethlyvia snorted but smirked to herself. “I have absolutely no idea why you think that.”
