School

School

A Poem by Kirsty Anne
"

A poem about the lies of school.

"
We don't want to go to school today.
Not because we can't be bothered,
Not because we're ungrateful,
But because...

The teachers tell us that everyone is different,
But everyone is sitting the same exam,
And we are all expected to pass,
With exceptional grades.

We're told to respect individuality,
But the second we do something
That makes us different,
We're judged and told we are wrong.

We're told to be ourselves,
But we have to wear the same uniform,
And we have to do everything
The teachers tell us to do.

I'm not saying that school is bad.
I'm not saying I'm not grateful.
But when teenage mental illnesses are skyrocketing,
Can you really tell us that school is perfect?
