introA Chapter by Rhiannonjust a brief introductionSometimes fate brings unlikely people together, but they cannot stay that way. A beauty and a beast, A prince and a peasant, A demon and a saint, A pirate and a mermaid. . . They weren’t supposed to cling, to stick; they were merely meant to collide and impact one another. Perhaps each will leave some indelible mark upon the other; a scar, a wound, a crease, a fold. But as these things go, most can’t recognize these chance impressions as what they are, and so they dig their nails in and grit their teeth and try in vain to fight the inevitable. It’s understandable, no one wants to experience such a powerful connection and have it be so fleeting. it’s like finding an oasis in a desert you’ve been wandering for years, only to have them tell you you’re only allowed one sip of the cool, clear water. It’s like living your whole life in darkness, seeing the sun for a day, feeling its warmth like an embrace on your cheek, then going back inside where it’s pitch-black and damp forever. It’s eons of loneliness put to an end by finally finding your soul’s other half, then losing them in a horrific accident a day later. So, you could see how two people on such a collision course might not want to let go so soon. You could see how the thought of separation might make them a little. . .unhinged. You could see how easy it is to make believe that because fate has brought them together, together is how they are meant to stay for all eternity. © 2013 RhiannonAuthor's Note
