BATTERY PARK CITY

BATTERY PARK CITY

A Story by Mia Sparrow

With nervous remove I watch and wonder how I got here. I think I hear murmurs or of reassurance. I can hear my silence and disembodied compliance.  The ceiling swims with waves of noirish light and shadows, undulating and lulling me. I’m trying to remember...I should see the view of Battery Park City.

The water is reflecting through glass onto the ceiling above me.  I am not in the water. It’s cool and smooth like leather surrounding me. The current is getting rough and I can’t fight it. I can barely breathe.  I can’t call out for help. I’m afraid i’ll drown if Iopen my mouth. But waves are crashing down on me now, rocking me back and forth violently beneath this torrent. I close my eyes to wait it out. It seems like an eternity and then it all stops.

I open my eyes. I see where i am. I know what happened...
