The Beauty of InsignificanceA Story by mercystateofmindThere is nothing about me that will
be concrete till the end of time. There is nothing about me that will travel
the galaxies. All I am is a life form on a planet, in a galaxy, surrounded by
nothing and everything. My accomplishments can be wiped from existence in the
blink of an eye, and my life can end within that same time frame. The way we
kill an insect, we can have our lives taken just as fast. Even to believe in an
afterlife means acknowledging there is an end to your physical life. All we
have is here and now. And there lies the irony of the
entire situation. This insignificance caused by mortality makes your life the
absolute most significant life there will ever be. You will never get a second
chance to do any of the things you’ve done for the first time again. When this
life ends, you will not get the same body and relive this journey you have been
given. Any and every thing you do at this moment defines the person who you
will eventually stop being. You can spend this time any which
way you want, and it’s up to you to decide if it was successful or a failure.
This life is up to you to decide if it was wasted, or fulfilling. Because you
can die in the blink of an eye, your accomplishments can be wiped from history,
and the fact that your name can be forgotten almost immediately means this is the only time
you have to become anything. This is the only time you have to gain significant
value, accomplish any feat, chase any dream, and conquer any fear. Your life is truly significant
because this will all come to an end. Atheist or religious, rich or poor,
friend or foe will all meet an end with the body given to them. We were all
given something truly beautiful with limited time to do what we wish, all of
which can finish so suddenly. All we honestly have are two things that will
eventually be taken away by death. All we have in this life is here and now. © 2015 mercystateofmindFeatured Review
