A Poem by mercy party

i'm at the lowest point you can be on dry land

a dire warning that i give to all my friends

i'm afraid of what i'm sliding towards

afraid afraid i can't see you anymore

i've got this feeling that someone is following me

when i'm alone at night the lights are flickering

i'm tired of living like a wanted man

and i need you to understand

if anything should happen to me

you need to know it wasn't me

they'll say a shot was fired to take the loneliness away,

i was framed

If you're gonna have times you better have 'em

because you're gonna end up like the D.C madam

stated on record that i would never do it

but i guess it doesn't matter if someone beats me to it

and i can't look back

i gotta hide my tracks

the dogs are after me

i gotta leave the city

i never wanted to embrace the suck

now this message will just self destruct

This feels like magical realism - a mix of gritty desert meeting metaphysical dragons.

The character in the setting seems so distant.

And I love the way it's conveyed.

Not by bluntly stating "I'm alone"

But more...

"i'm at the lowest point you can be on dry land"

Lowest points on dry land can also be subject to flash floods. Just the first thing that came to my mind - it gives me a sense of danger esp combined with a sorta outlaw undertone.

But not running away from the law, but from something much more sinister and perhaps more inevitable.

"embrace the suck" makes me feel like it's trauma, or memories, and the outlaw can't outrun the tentacles even out in the middle of a desolate desert.

Gritty and visceral as always, Mercy.
