ProlougeA Chapter by Lolo KIrene Kassorla once said, “You must have control of the authorship of your own destiny. The pen that writes you life story must be held in your own hand.” “Aria!” Her mom sang from downstairs. “Someone’s here for you!” The voice faded as it was pulled into another room. “Hey girl.” One of Aria’s closest friends, Skye, appeared in the doorway. Aria offered a half-hearted smile, covered by a pillow shaped as a can of coca-cola. “Ria, what’s wrong?” Her Scottish accent warmed the room. Aria didn’t answer with words, but a simple eye-roll to the calendar. August 13th was circled in thick, black Sharpie. Skye plopped herself down on her friend’s bed. “I’m so sorry, hon.” “It’s been a year.” Aria whispered. “And only nine months since I’ve been here.” Aria looked up. “Ria, love, I haven’t heard the full story.” When Aria didn’t answer, Skye picked up a brush. “You are a mess. Have you even left your room today?” Aria sat up and placed herself in front of Skye, who began to brush her hair. “You wanna hear the story?” Aria sighed. “It was two years ago…”
