Chapter 3: What Changed EverythingA Chapter by xxParamoreLoverxx
"What did you do this time?" Arabella exclaimed throwing her arms in the air. I rolled my eyes and made a knot with a piece of grass.
"I didn't do anything, it was Eric," I replied. I was far too tired to yell. "But you got involved and decided to talk to him," Arabella said. "And you didn't?" I retorted. "I still don't understand how you didn't get a detention but yet I did." "I don't know, I get away with everything." "I figured." It got quiet for a moment. After a few minutes of an awkward silence, I finally said, "Maybe we should just give up on trying to find Matt's killer. Who are we kidding? It happened eight years ago, why do I even bother?" I groaned and fell back in the grass. "Scarlett! The man killed your brother right in front of you! And the police never thought twice about catching him! Why would you give up on finding him? We're so close." "But yet so far. It's been two years, what have we found? A couple slips of paper and a coffee cup? In what way will that help us?" "It's better than nothing," Arabella said as she tried to calm me down. "Sometimes I think it was my fault he died," I whispered putting my head in my hands. "You were eight, it's not like you could do anything," she said as she rubbed my back. "I could've called my parents, went to my neighbors, but no! I just stood their and watched as his life was taken by the man with a gun!" I stopped talking as I felt my phone buzz. I took it out and read what it said. One step away hon. I gave Arabella my phone and she read the text aloud. "One step away hon, what do you think that means?" "I've got a pretty good idea."
