A modern Romeo and JulietA Screenplay by Caramel![]() Did this for school...![]() Disco scene: (There are plastic chairs around the room,
with a few tables to rest your drinks on. It’s very dark and there are lazar
lights flashing, most people are dancing. Jason and Mike are standing the
corner drinking and Abbie is dancing with Daniel.) Jason: So, do you actually dance at these
parties or do you just stand here getting drunk? Mike: I stand here, getting completely
drunk, then I supply the entertainment. Jason: (Curious) How? Mike: (Takes a sip) Dunno, I never remember
that far in. (Both laugh) Jason: I’m going to dance, you coming? Mike: (Uneasy) Are you sure? You know
you’re supposed to keep a low profile, you’re not allowed in here. Jason: (Of hand) I’ll be fine. See you
later, can’t wait for the entertainment. (Starts to walk onto the dance floor.) (Abbie is now dancing with Zack, she looks
over his shoulder and locks eyes with Jason.) Jason: (Walks back to Mike, but keeps his
eyes locked in Abbie’s, who continues to dance with Zack.) Mike: (Concerned) Jason, you alright? You
look like you’ve seen a ghost. Jason: (Dizzily) Who is that? (Points to
Abbie) The one dancing with the redhead. Mike: (Looks at Abbie then, when he sees
she’s staring straight at Jason, looks even more worried.) That’s Abbie
Carpenter, this is her birthday party, she’s Wynne’s cousin, but they’re close
enough to be brother and sister. Listen Jason, (pulls Jason’s face to look him
in the eyes) there are plenty of pretty girls here, chose one of them. Any of
them apart from that one, she’s even dancing with Zack Bromfit and he never
forgets a face. You get within two metres of that guy and he will know who you
are. Jason: Stop being such a spoilsport, I just
want a dance. (Walks towards Abbie) Mike: (Almost shouting) Your funeral mate. Jason: (Standing behind Abbie) Hi, can I
have the next dance? Abbie: (Turns around with a big smile)
Sure. Zack: (Suspicious) Hold on, do I know you?
I’m sure I’ve seen you before. Jason: (Slightly nervous) No, I’ve never
seen you before in my life. Zack: (Walks away, but looks over his
shoulder, still uneasy.) (Jason and Abbie start to dance.) Jason: So, yeah, happy birthday. How old
are you? Abbie: Sixteen. How about you? Jason: Seventeen. (Small pause) Abbie: So, you here with any one? Jason: Yeah, I am. Abbie: (Disappointed) Who? Jason: (Turns and points to Mike) Mike. Abbie: (Laughs for a bit then becomes
embarrassed) Oh my God, look at me flirting with you and I don’t even know your
name. Jason: (Steps back and holds out his hand)
Good evening, I’m Jason Button. Abbie: (Giggles) Abbie Carpenter, nice to
meet you. (Both laugh and start dancing again.) Abbie: So, what did you get me? Jason: (Confused) What? Abbie: It’s my birthday; you need to give a
birthday present. Jason: Umm, (Thinking) I can give you my
number. Abbie: Okay. (Jason reaches into his pocket, but Abbie
stops him.) Abbie: But I was thinking more on these
lines (Kisses Jason). Jason: (Happy) Okay (leans in a kisses
Abbie). Abbie: (Laughs) I’m such a tart, I haven’t
known you five minutes and I’m already kissing you. You could be in Phil’s gang
for all I know. Jason: Umm... Zack: (Walks out from the crowd and is annoyed)
He is from Phil’s gang, Abbie. Abbie: (Annoyed) Zack, were you spying on
me? Zack: Abbie this guy is from Phil’s gang. He was there at Highbridge,
the gym and most of the other fights. He is the enemy! Abbie: (Looks at Jason) Is that true? Jason: (Not meeting her eyes) Yeah, it is. Zack: (Furious) You’re lucky its Abbie’s
birthday ‘cause at any other time I would break your face, but I’ll settle for
kicking your butt out the door. (Abbie runs off while Zack grabs Jason by
the hair pulls him towards the door. He kicks Jason out and slams the doors.
Jason sits on the curb, feeling very upset. Somebody sits beside him. It’s
Abbie.) Abbie: (Urgently) Meet me in the park in
half an hour. Jason: (Confused) What? Abbie: Meet me in the park in half an hour. Jason: You still want to see me? Even
though I’m in Phil’s- Abbie: (Interrupting) I don’t care. I
really like you and (Unsure) I think you like me... Jason: A lot. Abbie: (Smiling) So why should it matter?
(Kisses Jason’s cheek) See you in half an hour. (Get’s up to leave.) Jason: (Holds her arm) Why in half an hour? Abbie: (Laughs) Because it’ll take some
time to get Zack of my case. Jason: Good point, see you later. (Abbie waves and walks inside while Jason
walks towards the park.) © 2011 CaramelAuthor's Note
