InvisibleA Poem by Meliss@kSept. 2018
You never saw me,
Or at least, I never thought you did At church In the store Or seeing you -rocking- on a porch chair, at a neighborhood friend’s place. You never said hi, passing by At church In the store Or right beside you -eating- in a restaurant, that our whole town loves. .I was invisible. .Always invisible. ...Until one day I was riding the four-wheeler, on my friend’s dirt road, When someone drove by, and waved my direction. “Who was that? Did they know me? Were they meaning to wave?” The person in the silver truck, was a mystery -yes- yet nothing out of the ordinary.... ‘nothing to see here’ life went on... Soon after, it didn’t matter, I forgot about the wave, And headed home, -slept and ate- A few more months and days... Church again Sunday’s message, about Relationships and marriage, And im still invisible- to the man, who never looks my direction... A lady pulls me aside, “Good morning! You look nice this Sunday!” “i dont mean to pry, but i wanted to let you know, my nephew (pointing) is interested in you.” My heart, jumping -singing- ‘Oh Amazing Grace!’ “He’s shy though, i hate to say... and i couldnt promise he’d ask you out, and be brave one of these days...” My heart slowly -calming- ‘What a Peace is Mine’ “Well, that’s good to know, and it’s okay, I’m shy too! Tell him that! Maybe one day, he’ll say hi, when the time is due.” A hug, we agreed Between us, this conversation would stay As she winked, and smiled, turning to walk away... One. Two. Three, nights and days, Had gone and come When out of the blue, a message appeared- reading: “Hi Mel, how are you?” “I was talking to my aunt, after church, Sunday, and was thinking you and I could go to lunch? or dinner? maybe this weekend, or soon?” (I was invisible Always invisible to the man at church) “Oh! by the way! Was that you? The other day? I passed you, on a four-wheeler? I made a point to wave.” ...that’s when it hit me... -everything fell into place- That was him!? The same man!? The one I’ve asked for and prayed!? The church man I was invisible to, yet, the same man -months ago- who crossed my path, and waved! “Yes! I’d love to! Let’s have dinner, Whenever you’re free!” almost instantly, he replied “Tomorrow it is then!” “Dinner, on me 🙂” © 2020 Meliss@k |
