I. Don’t. Know...A Poem by Meliss@k-At this point in my life-
The echoecho, echo
Of my hellohello? Hello?! Soaked the three corners surrounding mine... .darkness. cold and empty within this symmetrically-square room The air is scarce as I sit, tied to a chair, beyond my control in more ways than one... Past these walls, I hear confusion Anger (and whispers) Ticking, amongst the anxious press “Is she? Or isn’t she?” I hear one ask... With silence Then footsteps Colliding through my door. A Masculine Figure, and a Kind-Eyed Woman slowly Walk my way and light from the hall Pierces Their Rings while shadows swallow ghostly faces creeping through the door’s, last, creak... .SLAM. darkness again except for a spotlight, above, as They ask for my name -Grace- age -26- height -5’ 2- (if I really try) The Man retains my answers on a clipboard where he stands And the Woman gently displays a newspaper clipping, as it dangles from her hand close enough for me to read, the title, and first word I see... “CELIBATE” It says, with a mug-shot drawing resembling, Me... “Is. It. True?” The Man interrupts halfway looking my direction, with The Woman, searching my expressions, to relieve her disbelief. “i. don’t. know...” stings the walls, with three reflections, of my answer. ... and, as slothly as They entered, now exiting the room, leaving both Their shadows behind... Did I answer wrong? Is this the final verdict? ... My conviction? Maybe I should have answered more Confident. Maybe next time, next time? I’ll speak, With Greater Diction? “Shhh. It’s okay, I’ll get you out of here”... A ghostly face peaked, out, from within my shadows It untied my hands, and it loosened my feet... “forgive them” it said “they know not what that say... they know not what they do” “Hurry now! You’ve got your whole life, waiting for you!” It led me to the door, and pushed me outside .Light. ...as the Ghostly Face became a shadow, in the Judgment Room, Once Mine ... © 2018 Meliss@kReviews
