Learning the Hard Way

Learning the Hard Way

A Poem by Emilia

When I was young, I learned about the stars.
My dad would make me look up
as he pointed at each one
and spoke carefully---
trying his best to teach me what he could.

"The light that you see now
is from millions of years ago,"
he’d tell me.

But it wasn’t until I grew
and lost you, my love
that I could understand
how something from the past could have such a lasting impact
how something from the past could be so present

But oh, how I understand now.
Oh, how I understand now.

Is there ever a way to find words?
When all the feelings weigh so long
When crying only seems to burn
And all alone it seems so wrong

i don't know why, but I ended up crying towards the end. I love it!
