Awakened Soul

This poem is part of "The best of 2007" poetry book due out this summer.

Awakened Soul

 

Here on earth we are ambitious to be counted

among the world's acclaimed achievers.

Also beyond the East Gates we need to be grounded

in the ways of the believers.

 

Diploma's, ribbons and documents of advance.

One day our dreams will be put into action.

We honor hard work and will, not happenstance.

We persevere to turn our vision into acceptance.

 

In every town across America we yearn to visit,

to behold in every life new and old,

and each dwelling with hope in it,

will hearken the achievement of an Awakened Soul.

Very nice but I did think the first two lines were a bit redundant. It sounded somewhat like Ronald Reagan when he asked, "What would America be without this great country of ours?" You have, "Here on earth" and then "among the world's" within one sentence of each other, to me, its simply overkill. The rest of the poem was great and I admire the faithful content. On the whole, its better than most of the poetry I read here.
