Chapter 1

So here I go. The first day in a new town, in a new school, with a kind of still new ability. I never thought starting over on a clean slate could be this new. We’re still in a small town, I don’t think my aunt likes the idea of me being between a lot of people much, she’s scared I tell them that I have a little secret.

We now live in a cute double story house, much better than the one we had, though it’s not home to me yet. I wonder if I’ll ever feel that it is. I quickly make my new double bed and turn to look at myself in the mirror. Do I look different? Did anything change? I don’t see anything new to me. I’m still the fair skinned girl with the auburn hair I was last time I checked. Not a bit of difference.

“Well this is it. Better get on with it” I whisper to myself taking my bag from my bedside table. “I hope I could feel normal here.” I whisper again and run down the stairs to the old farm style kitchen. I like it, dark wood cupboards with an old wooden floor. It makes me feel home. My aunt places a bowl of cereal in front of me as I go and sit at the counter.

“Are you ready for this Angie? I know it’s really hard on you.” She asks, taking her seat in front of me.

“Ready as I’ll ever be, but I know it’s necessary. Otherwise you wouldn’t have moved us here.” I try to keep the sadness out of my voice. I know she had to do it, she didn’t really have much of another option. If anyone found out about what and who I really am we will have a lot of not needed trouble.

I’m a witch in training and in these little towns most people still have the whole black cat and evil idea about us, actually we’re just normal people. We love, we hate, we do right, we do wrong and we age. We live normal happy lives without anyone finding out our little secret.

“Are you alright Angela?” I look up from my cereal and look straight into my aunt’s worried expression.

“Yeah sure, I’m just a little nervous to go back to school that’s all.”

She smiles at me and I know she’s not as concerned anymore. I say my goodbyes and head out. I have to walk to school for the next while since my car is sold so we can afford the house. I don’t really mind it. As soon as I’m out the front door I can feel the soft little breeze of fresh air twirling around outside carrying that just rained smell.

The street is quiet and seems almost asleep. I walk in the direction of the school. It won’t be that bad, I mean it’s just another school.  Just a lot of kids studying, pretending to study or seeing school as a social event… everything is completely normal.

As I walk around the bend of the road my thoughts are interrupted by the sound of tires screeching, I turn around and see a car coming straight at me even though I’m on the sidewalk. I try running to get out of the way, but it’s coming to fast, slipping on the wet road.  I hear the driver screaming for me to get out of the way… but it's too late.

            ***********

I hear someones voice, a young guy's ,I think. I open my eyes, but everythings a blur so I close them again trying to lose the dizzyness.

"Hey she's alive!" I hear a perky girl voice

"Dixie I told you that ten minutes ago" it's the guy again. I feel a hand on my cheek and his gentle voice. "Come on girly time to wake up now."

I try opening my eyes again thankfully this time with more success and almost immediately ask what's going on. Why am I lying on a pavement, I look up at the guy and girl, I think her name is Dixie.

"Welcome back sleepy head. I'm Denise, but everyone calls me Dixie. Are you alright?" She's a petite girl about my age with blonde hair and blue eyes and unmistakeably beautiful.

"My head hurts." The guy helps me into a sitting position.

"I'm Adam. Is there anyone we can call for you? We saw the car slipping and hit you." He has light brown hair and the same blue eyes as Dixie. He's built quaterback style, but doesn't seem like a jerk like most of them.

"No I'm okay, just a little shaken. Do you know the time?" No way can I tell my aunt about this. She'll freak and never let me walk to school again and I really don't want her to drop me off.

I left early this morning maybe there's still a chance for me to be on time for school.

" Its about eight 'o clock" he says and then ask "Are you Angela Brown?"

"Yeah that's me." How on earth does he know I've only moved here Saturday? How is it possible

"Awesome. Hey you don't have to look so freaked, we live next door. You on your way to school? Are you feeling okay to go?"

"Yeah, fine thanks for umm helping me."
