Little Things

Little Things

A Poem by THE [ME]GEAN

Half smiles in the night

Oh let these wings take flight

What more could I ask for in a man?

And yet more do I ask for

A hug, a carress, a touch

He stands

With withering eyes and a hopeful fish frown

He tears me down with his thoughts

Hopeful and fearful of a loss

And I reassure- I do!

That my love will always be true

But cake and flesh will never be enough

A hug, a carress, a touch

He sighs

With a half baked smile and a wishful half smile,

He doesn’t know what more he can do,

It’s the little things he does

It’s the little things that fly through

My empty brain

Filled with fantasies and pros

But fantasies don’t fill these gaping holes

A hug, a caress, a touch

And I cry for all that I know

That all that I want

In depression and draught

Is a hug, a caress, a touch

Without selfishness or lust

A hug, a caress, a touch.

Little things...ahhhh...the little things are so simple yet so hard to get! I like this poem a lot! "But cake and flesh will never be enough"...I like this verse in your poem. It says a lot. I definitely get the feel that you aren't materialistic, it isn't about love making or sex, just something so simple as a hug will make you content! This poem definitely applies to relationships in general...Nice job! ;)

This is the hardest lesson for man to learn about women and you know even to this day, I forget this lesson... hmmm thanks for the reminder. It is never enough it seems. Your poetry makes me smile as it unfolds I get to see another point of view that enables me to understand my lady a little better.

One thing in format I try to play with from time to time is maybe using less words per line. if you can find the flow between two and four words the poem will have a certain feel to you when read. When I want them to read faster I use one or two words and when I want them to read slower I use four plus words per line. it gives your reader the sense of speed then slow then speed again.
