Fear

a poem about fear

fear is like a snake

it can only be seen when looked for

but sometimes it ends up showing through

people around feel it too and it spreads like a disease

covering everything in it's path

everyone falls one by one

like dominos it starts a chain reaction

one falls after the other

fear siezes their hearts and holds it until it stops

screams escape like strangled words that barely escape it's hold

those who are still breathing can either find strength or lose all senses

one person escape it's grasp and breaks free of the trance

only to run and leave everyone else behind

when fear has had it's fun and loosens it's grip the effect still lingers

the people stand rigid and striaght and slowly reume their lives

but the memory of fear can't be walked off but rather it clings to them and follows them wherever they go

haunting them and waiting for it's next chance to strike

This has very well-written imagery. Reading this, it was if I could hear "Screams escape like strangled words" and feel the sense of fear as it grasps their hearts. The poem creates a great image in just a few amount of lines. I thought your comparison of fear to a snake, fear to a disease, and the chain reaction of fear to dominoes falling was utilized well. Very nice.

Dear Megara,

The imagery of fear is intensely portrayed here. I like how extended it is from a disease to the effects of the disease, it knocks people down indeed like "dominos." May I recommend breaking up the line before the last line as it stops the structure flow of the poem. Preferably I like that line, the one that says, "but the memory of fear can't be walked off...," because it does follow you if you don't let it be extinguished by love.

I was interested to read this because the other day it came to my mind to write a couple words about fear myself..I like it very much, especially this line:
''screams escape like strangled words that barely escape it's hold''
I think you should check your 'it's' though, because most of the time it should be 'its', gramatically. But over all it's very nice!
