ElementsA Poem by Amalia Gray
Sat in the pink light
and let apathy settle in. Didn't want to die, I wanted to be stripped bare, To make love with the gods. The mountains are my dear friends, but the wind was once my lover. I danced in his grain, I stood naked in the street, as he covered me with soft roses. I would've surrendered to the wind, let him blow me into the woods, let the tree branches cut up my cheeks. But now all I can do is lay down in the nettles, atop the anthill, and sacrifice my flesh to the creatures of the earth. Maybe if they feast on me, my life will have purpose. Maybe if they love me, I will surrender to the forest floor. And maybe when the woods burn down, the wind will blow our ashes into the vast ocean.
