Broken Souls Under Cover

Broken Souls Under Cover

A Poem by Drowning with Stars

She’s spent her whole life perfecting the act

Of just a normal girl

Trying to find her way in the world

No one ever thinks to wonder what’s underneath

So, alone every night, she cries herself to sleep

All everyone sees is a beautiful girl with sparkling eyes

No one guesses that what makes them shine are all the tears she hides

She’ll continue on through the motions

Just another broken soul under cover

Waiting for someone to look deep

And save her from all the secrets she keeps

He sits in the shadow of the church

But he never goes inside

What could they have that he hasn’t already failed to find?

So instead he walks away

Alone in the pouring rain

When he gets home he’ll pull out the knife

And leave this Earth and all of nothing behind

No more continuing on through motions

Just another broken soul under cover

No one’s ever bothered to look deep

No one to save him from all the secrets he’d had to keep

No one knows the pain that rules them

They try so hard to hide the burdens they bear

But they succeed so well that no one knows to care

Broken souls under cover

No one knows to look deep

No one guesses all the secrets they keep

About
What I love about poetry is that it's completely personal. Not only to the writer, but the same poem also means something a little different to every single reader, the same way a song is different to.. more..
