Masks

Masks

A Poem by A Lost Man Found
"

Society, that harlot who hides who we truly are!

"

One for family,

One for friends.

Will anyone stand with me?

And throw a fist up against an imminent end.

I've got one for every mood.

Both good and bad.

I've got a good one for when I brood.

I've got one for happpy and one for sad,.

Behind a million masks we hide,

Our Real faces rarely show,

We never reveal what  we feel inside.

We try to hard not to fight the flow.

I feel like a mummy

Wrapped up beneath a thousand layers,

If they are removed from me,

I wonder what will remain there.

I guess my real question is

Underneath al of these masks,

Does any real part of us still exist,

Or is lost in a conglomerical mass?

We all have them. It's because of our insecurities. We can be screaming to get out from behind the masks and saying no at the same time! Are any of us really free from that? I agree with Jenn that I also appreciate truth about our behavior. It helps us see into ourselves!

Too many of us hide our true inner being. Why? People can't handle the truth, don't want to face the truth. In return, walls are built, fences wrap around us - the world become one big charade.

I appreciate a poem which addresses characteristics of people's behavior. The interesting lot that we are can never be explained enough to me. There are always questions.

Good job with this one!

I liked this alot... its a shame we feel the need to hide behind so many masks instead of just showing how we really feel... We build walls when its not realy necessary.. but only to protect ourselves.

Loved this x

I really enjoyed this poem. "I feel like a mummy wrapped up beneath a thousand layers" was my favorite metaphor. This reminded me of my high school years and the people I have had to deal with throughout my 20 years of existence.

Most fabulous. Yes, Who are you? Who are we, who are they? That IS the question, is it not? How we DO hide behind them, wear them for every occasion, etc. Nice and short, yet to the point. I like it. :)

=) True. I had two masks once. One was for my friends, the other for my church, and family. I tried to mold them together, but it didn't work out so well... So I just threw them out.

It is true what you say, because I have thousands of masks to hide myself. to show people what they want to see not how I truely feel or how I'm just one person and how nothing that I show is any different than what other people show, so now I am tuely degusted with myself
