Girl You HoldA Poem by MeaghanYou know the way loneliness creeps its way into me. You know that I’m always feeling cold. You know that, but still you can’t see, I’m the only girl I want you to hold. And you know how much I cry. You know that it all builds up until I explode. But still you don’t even try, To let me be the only girl you hold. You know how much I sit here, and wait. Wait for you to come around. You know I stay up late, Wishing your feet would touch the ground. I hate the pedestal you sit on, Because I could never reach. My heart aches when you’re gone, And I lose my sense of speech. All words lost along with my integrity, And you don’t even see, That you’re doing this to me. You’re lost in the clouds, selfish as can be. And once I go to walk away, You sit me down and you say, Something that makes me shine, puts a smile on my face. You tell me I’m beautiful, and I jump back in the race. Because it’s all just a game. You’ll tell me you love me, but to her you’ll say the same. And once I get the courage to stop all this pain, Once I realize you’ve left me in the rain, You do it again, because you’ve got me on this chain. But today I won’t let you do this to me, I’m taking off these shackles because I think I’ve found the key. It was hidden where you knew I’d never look, In my heart, behind the cobwebs you never shook. How could I think that you would ever change? It was a childish dream, I’m trying to rearrange. For you I’ll always be here, but my heart can’t say the same. You’ve crushed it more times then one, But have never taken the blame. And I guess now I’m done. I don’t deserve to be tattered, broken, and worn. Because really, I’m a rose, and you’re nothing but a thorn. I’m happy now I see, This raging epiphany. Maybe I can move on, do great things on my own. And meet someone who won’t make me feel so alone. Who knows that I’m cold. But wants me to be the only girl they hold. © 2011 Meaghan |
