I was trying to convey a serious aspect of aging, the universality of loss that all humans must endure. I don’t know where the rice and beans idea came from, possibly a recent conversation about cooking on a budget. I felt kind of silly using that comparison, so am pleased so many of you have responded kindly.
When all other things have been lost, spirit remains. Writing poetry is food for the spirit.

I have often thought that as we age and lose more and more, loss is actually a gift because it forces us to tune in more to spirit, turn more to the Creator, the constant in our lives that is always there.
Life really is all about the fundamentals. The rest is just flavor.

in your opinion and mine as well, the nutrition for poets is their writing and the exchange of writing among us…. we all learn from this special group of people who inspire us to pen… without the nutrition how would be sustained….luckily we have much nutrition in the Cafe….inspiration equals nutrition…. nice metaphorical write!
