Pray For Death

Pray For Death

A Poem by Michael Sun Bear
"

Life in a community where death is common

"
I recently joined a senior community, hence this:

Pray For Death

Pray for Death
As she walks our halls.
Pray she raps softly on chamber doors
Where angels long prepared her visit.
Pray her breath is sweet when she whispers,
Come my love, it is time,
And pray her hand be warm
As she guides the way.
And if you think Death capable of mistake,
As I do not,
But if you do,
Pray the taken Soul
All the sooner,
All the tighter,
Be clasped by our Lord.

i am 34 years old which to you might seem young but i read this work and it struck a chord with me. i feel death is close, and i dont know why, but that has always been the way i am. and i am scared, but also not scared. it will tear me apart, but then set me free.
i liked how in this work death was represented in the feminine. i have always pictured death as an older man - the father i never hard - but imagining the cloaked one as a maternal figure might be more accurate. in eternal sleep, we are greeted with unconditional love.
thank you for sharing this.

About
Once upon a time, a crazy, talented poet from across the Salish Sea told me of an intense dream she experienced in which she was given a strange title for a poem, but nothing more. She felt it import.. more..
