Farewell To The Sea

Farewell To The Sea

A Poem by Miguel
"

To those who have lost somebody.

"

Last night I had that dream of you, the dream that makes me hurt,

Where I take you to the sea and you wear your gypsy skirt.

I help you take your shoes off and we run across the sand,

There are fireworks in the air and we can hear the New Year's band.

The two of us, we run, until the trumpets fade away,

To where the sky has turned magenta and the clouds are not so grey.

We face the skyline and I hold you with my arms around your waist,

The water's cold around our ankles but your hair is warm upon my face.

You turn around to hold my hand, and you tell me that we'll run,

Say if we fly across the ocean then we can catch the setting sun.

So I sprint into the waves with you, and my hand is still in yours,

The sun is sinking as we swim, drifting farther from the shore.

Then in seconds there is darkness; you hold my face and then we kiss,

Our lips are salty from the sea, but in that moment there is bliss.

We turn around to swim to land but it's dark and we can't see,

The whispering ocean's getting rough; you're being pulled away from me.

I try to find you in the waves; I swear I'm trying so damn hard,

I'm so confused and I'm so scared; the water's ripping us apart.

I hear you screaming out my name; I turn around and scream yours back,

My heart is pounding in my throat; can't find your hand, the world is black.

I race to find your calling voice, but in the waves your voice is drowned,

I feel I'm searching for forever - even when there is no sound.

Then I wake up and I am crying salty tears that taste like pain,

There's a mark there on my pillow where dried tears have left a stain.

I can't stop that empty feeling, as I lie awake for hours,

Scream in pillows, clench my teeth, hold myself, take ice-cold showers.

So I walked out to the beach today for the first time in two years,

Thought that maybe it was time for me to put away my fears.

The early morning breeze was cold as I walked barefoot to the tide,

I stood and shouted out your name, but the ocean only sighed.

I found myself standing alone where we waded in that night,

And I stood as the sun rose, and I was covered in its light.

The warm caress, it wiped my tears, and for once I didn't hurt,

I smiled back at the glowing rays and pictured you in your gypsy skirt.

I felt at peace under the sky; I felt so free that I wanted to run,

Because I knew that now you could rest, and that you'd caught our setting sun.

Miguel
This poem is about loving somebody with your entire heart and soul.
It's also about losing that person and reaching closure.

From a dream, not events in my life.

Gave me chills, made me tear up, and made my heart melt. I can tell this really came from deep down. If only I could write from my heart and make it this beautiful. Haha. Anyway, this may just be the best piece of writing I've seen on this website in all my life!

I love this poem. In life we truly love and lost it...but we should never give up...we should rise again and move on.

Very inspiring at the end. Astounding rhyme. Bravo!

This is so beautiful. I love the concept, of how you love, lost and revive. Amazing rhyme and rhythm. This is excellent!

Thank you, Blue Teardrop. :) I'm glad you enjoyed reading it. Have a beautiful day.
A beautiful poem of love and lost. You had my favorite places and a woman in a Gypsy dress. You took the reader on a good journey. I like the ending. By the sea we can re-learn peace and hope. Also find old memories to bring comfort. A strong ending to a outstanding poem.

ok number one this website is kinda annoying me because when i tried to make your rating 100000000000/100 it didn't allow me to - so i can just give you 100/100. ok number two - DID YOU RELALY RIGHT THIS? THIS POEM IS LIKE FRIGGEN AMAZING!! I MEAN SERIOUSLY - WHATTT!!!! when i was reading the part when he was in the waves trying to find her - my heart was pounding - wait no- more like vibrating out of my chest - and my hands were shaking. and my mom came over and was like "jessica are you ok - and i screamed "SHUT UP MOM" because i needed to be in peace reading this amazing poem of yours. how did you rhyme it all, also? i mean it would have been amazing without rhyming - but u made it rhyme so it was like oozing awesomeness. it flowed SOO WELL, i didn't get lost at all, it almost led me to tears, and by the end of the poem - it gave me that feeling in my chest as if i had lost someone who i had that much love for, too (even though i haven't) so i would like to give you a cyber high five because that was one kick a*s poem you wrote right there. some high quality s**t u made - nice job ;)
