Forgiving Jealousy

Forgiving Jealousy

A Poem by Michael Corkill
"

Spiritual principles to help in forgiving others. Originally entitled, "Overcoming Jealousy". A Poem written to a friend in need.

"

They hate you for loving them

but they receive from you

all the gifts you can give.

They smile at your beauty

while scorning in their heart,

amazed at your caring

while tearing you apart.

How do you keep them

in your heart with no pain

while they curse you in secret

with motives for gain

Your hands offer helping

Your heart only love

Ever shining so brightly

your gifts from above

You lead by example

to show all the way

to a better life in living

Your lying they say

Their slander does wound you

but take heart my dear wife

that's how God felt

as he gave up His life.

I loved this poem, you did a great job of capturing the way it feels to love someone who doesn't feel the same and the pain of giving to someone only capable of taking

Thanks for the help. Both comments are noteworthy. So much so I, as you may notice that I have already made the correction and the revision as well. I agree with you David, it does read better when stopped where it stops now. The last stanza actually conveys forgiveness in a powerful yet unspoken way Even better than words. Nice effect. I am in your debt sir. Thank you.,

Also - should that be 'life' in living, 'You're' lying they say.

This starts off okay, but you seem to lose control of it towards the end. It develops into a sermon, and most of us shy away from sermons these days. Far better to develop a theme which allows the reader to make up their own mind with regard to moral values. The final two verses seem to have been afterthoughts or add-ons. I would have finished it at 'as he gave up his life.'
