Rainstorm in June

Rainstorm in June

A Poem by Matthew Clough

What lovely weather it is -

to invite you over,

to make a pot of coffee,

to serve pastries in the parlor,

and to discuss all the books

we finally found the time to read.

We’ll craft our own Romantic,

an ideal to rival the poets.

I always dreamt in lyric.

Waltzing to our symphony -

the rain a glissando on glass,

the cups a cymbal on saucers,

our chat a crescendo in the coda,

we’ll smile with the satisfaction

of the novelist’s final sentence.

When we part in misty eve,

I’ll kiss your lips, staccato.

An isle in seas, our reprieve.

This is a really good poem. I like the forth stanza best. :)
