SoullessA Poem by Matthew CloughI
spent all my money on alcohol.
I
shook hands with your new lover when
I wanted to spit in his face.
I
draped myself in cardigans and
sipped martinis in the dark while
I let faceless men feel me.
And
I couldn’t say no, so I said nothing,
hoping for God in silence,
an impossible dream among
soaking wet blankets.
I’ve
exhausted my energy on zeroes,
so when they all start reaching
through me, I don’t even
feel their fingers, and they
won’t feel my pulse. © 2014 Matthew CloughReviews
