Queen of Yellow Lights

Queen of Yellow Lights

A Poem by Matthew Clough

F**k, she mutters,

as the green burns out,

and the sun starts to rise,

blinding the eyes of the weary.

S**t, she murmurs,

as the setting sun fades,

a bold red twilight explodes,

and her foot fumbles for the brake.

Tomorrow, she sighs,

watching the cars speed by,

her future in the rearview mirror,

she will smash the accelerator at dawn.

I find this to be almost quirky, and I like it. An interesting way to write about the subject. Nice job :)

Ooh...you have a nice blend of imagery and metaphor here. I especially enjoy the colors in the first two stanzas - the "green burns out" and the "red twilight explodes" - and their connections with traffic lights (I personally think the second stanza is the strongest of all three).

And your use of these devices carries the theme of "try, fail, try again" so well.

90, and I'm expecting more from you.
