LongingA Poem by Madeline Capo
My soul is insatiable
It lives in a continuous state of fullness and lack Crying out for a next thing whilst reveling in a thing once cried for A symtom of humannes I struggle to change the pattern But the Longing She jolts through my veins Quickens my hearbeat Makes every good thing seem bleaker than an English sky Have you known a Longing that shouts to you in dreams? Suffocates your breath Demands every morsel of attention We've become old friends, her and I The kind who thrive by sucking the life out of the other Is there a different way? Satisfaction in the mundane Pleasure on a Monday Hold me down, I shriek Please I release her binding energy through the tips of my fingers Invite her to exit me And for a few minutes I am happy without conditions
