a love like thisA Poem by Madeline Capo
I
want a love that defies logic one
that is unexplainable one
similar to magic
I
want a love that doesn't define itself in
circumstance, but in foolproof truth
The
mountains quake and the earth shakes, but
this love does not move
Everlasting
Unconditional
Beautiful
Enduring
Love
My
legs buckle and I fall because my
body is covered in sprinklings of
goosebumps
And
I am speechless
And
I am whole because
of this love
This
love has never considered me an option, always
a priority
And
it doesn't make sense, but
doesn't ask questions
It
just is.
Some
people don’t understand what I mean Because
they believe In
the somebody-told-me-God they met long ago In
a Southern Baptist church Or
roadside protest Mouths
spreading hate, lies, and division
But
as deep as the ocean depths go, I
want you to know that this is not my
God My
God doesn’t believe in what those people preach
His
love… Acceptance
flowing, free as water
It’s
something that knows my inner
workings (mind, body, soul)- ears,
eyes, mouth, nose, eyelashes, freckles and
counts them not "pretty," but "perfect”
A
whole world is saved because of a
love like this
It
was not made by an explosion or collision or bang or coincidence
Rather
a hand which intricately wove together an
intricate world and decided dust wasn’t meant just for the ground
My
body is at peace while my hand shakes as
I write because I realize I was also made by this
love
A
love that asks nothing yet gives
everything
anytime
anywhere
FREELY
You
too, are free because of this love
And
I say everyday, "oh I want a love like this." But
suddenly my body is at peace and my hand shakes as I write because I realize I
already have it And
I have had it all along © 2018 Madeline Capo |
