Letter To God

Letter To God

It’s not quite a story yet it is one. Though short, it makes it’s point clearly. This letter to God shows the human observation of everyday life.

"
Dear God,

These humans are broken. They are battered, bruised, and scarred. Not just on their bodies, but in their minds and hearts. Their souls have been twisted and shoved in every direction. Doctors stuff them with pills to calm the nerves, to help them sleep, to keep them from wanting to kill themselves. And then they wonder why they become addicted. They turn to alcohol for love and fake friends to fill the raging holes in their hearts to keep it from swallowing them whole. Some of them are angry. They are so angry with the world that they will shout for justice and burn for peace. They are willing to voice their own opinion but criticize before ever daring to hear another’s remarks. They cheat, lie, and steal their way through life. Even the smallest things are brought out of the depths covered in deception. What I truly can’t seem to understand is that most of them think they know what love is. They tell their mother’s, brothers, and sisters. They tell their boyfriends, girlfriends and best friends that they love them. But oh how quick they are to cut straight through family ties when they have been wronged. How fast they jump at the chance to leave their friend because they offended them. How they sit and wait for the day to break up with their girlfriends and boyfriends because a better option might just come along. Marriage is now a piece of paper waiting to be shredded. Freedom of religion has become a debate, sexuality isn’t a human right, it has to be demanded. Everyone seems to be fighting for the same thing, peace and love of humanity. But they get distracted along the way; they get hurt along the way. Their minds are degraded by corrupt school systems, their hearts deflated by the ones who said they cared, and their souls are slowly withering away. Each step is closer to a mile and this journey called life seems less and less worth it. Most of them don’t seem to really care about one another. They care only about a small group of people or what someone can offer them. How has it come to this? Why do they all fight for the same thing but harm one another? They’ve turned to harmful and worldly things to make them happy but can still die laughing when they hear a joke for the hundredth time. Some of them are angry. They will shout and curse people all day long but when they come home and see their little child asleep in bed it somehow all melts away and it’s replaced with a smile. They have all been raised differently and they all have different opinions. A lot of them can’t even get along. But somehow a Christian and an Atheist still talk to each other every day and love one another. They cheat, lie, steal, and deceive. But so many of them then stay awake because of the nightmares and the guilt of it all. Over half of all marriages are ending and, relationships are now monthly things instead of lifetimes. But they still keep happening, some of them still last lifetimes even through all the bad things. They get distracted and forget their morals or how they were raised. They screw up a lot and hurt each other too much. A lot of days they want to give up, but somehow they keep going. Does this mean there is hope? Hope for these broken humans?

I think so.

Sincerely,

A Human
