I am...

I am the flame that shines through the night,

I am your hope that shows you the light.

I am your love, I am your fear,

I am the one who will whisk you away from here.

I am the light that gives you fright,

I am the watcher that stays through the night.

Why do you hide, why do you flee,

even though we both know you can't escape me?

I am your doubts, your fears intertwined,

sometimes you try to lose me, but I don't mind.

The more you fail, the more I grow,

so be afraid, and  doubt, so the more I show.

I can't wait until you see my true face,

and then your sanity will become...displaced.

So have fun while you can, and give life a spin,

both of us know that inevitably that I Will WIN!!

Loved it. It conveys a complex set of emotions. The anaphora of the 'I am' balances the focus on an unspecified 'you', antitheses are spread throughout all of the poem helping to create that complex set of emotions I mentioned above: flame-night, love-fear, away-here and so on ...
Finally the oxymoron, not in words but in concepts, of the images of a protective and haunting poet.

I love how this poem slowly reveals a darker aspect as it progresses! It builds up that intensity and the ending just sparks it all off, making it something uniquely different! This is fantastic!

Oooo a poem with twists and turns. At first i thought it was a love poem but then at the end you put a darker element to it. Brilliant!
