Cardinal

Cardinal

A Poem by mbg

I used to be a shadow

Making no noise and practically invisible

          Dark and barely seen

          Blended in with the background

But when noticed people always laughed

I did nothing but kept on following

Not knowing what else to do

But now I am a cardinal

I fly with grace and beauty

My feathers a beautiful crimson red

Seeming to say I don’t care

          Eye drawing when people notice

Cannot help but to take a second glance

I still don’t speak out much

          But when I do,

I make the most beautiful sound
