Changes

Changes

A Poem by Madhur Batra

The sunshine is so bright, it's messing with my mind
I don't know whether to believe what I see because it's so horrifying
Is it racist hatred or a case of misplaced races?
I'm fazed because the black man is getting tazed
While the white teen is mugging for money in the back alley
"But Your Honor, I didn't do anything wrong"
"Silence, you're guilty because you were causing harm"
I guess the cop's "blacklist" gets one more tally
And the young teen goes back to breaking faces
As long as the bystanders don't get hurt they don't care
But with that attitude, society's going to get nowhere
I'm constantly reminded that the world isn't perfect
We have to change ourselves before we change the world
But the important thing is that we make those changes worth it

The message of this piece is very true. Everyone thinks they can go out and change the world but what few realize is that they need to change themselves first. This is a great poem, I look foward to reading more of your writing.

By the way, some of the details, and play-on-words (such as "blacklist") were a great touch.
