This Ain't Love

This Ain't Love

A Poem by Mary Bradley

Perfection he said I am
Worth thousands of women combined.
As desirable as Helen of Troy.
Attractive he said I am
So much so that I am afraid to demand,
To be loved and cherish by him. Only him.
Constantly in waiting I am
Never been a one and only.
Love ain't this !
My Mama told me, Love is as sure as the sunrise !
Love is as constant as her love for me !

Mother love is, perhaps, the Gold Standard of human love; blood-tie being the crucial aspect (hopefully) missing from romantic commitment. Of course, when it comes to blood, siblings of the same mother and father are closest.
Genetic digression aside, your dramatic, hard-hitting and eloquent poem says it all, very nicely.
Very fine work, Mary!

And mama used to say:
"Don't you rush to get old"
And mama used to say:
"Take it in your stride"
And mama used to say:
"Live your life" - lyrics of a song by 'Junior' (1982)

Mothers have been right - since at least 1982.

Good penning Mary. :))
